#5.09 ”The Real Ghostfacers”

#5.09 ”The Real
Ghostfacers”

EPISODE 5.09 THE REAL
GHOSTFACERS

“Wholly mother of crap! That was awesome! That describes perfectly
how much I loved this episode from start to finish.

It was great to see Chuck again, and this time having a much more
substantial part. Loved him running the convention along with Becky. She was
great from her first running up to Sam and going all fan girl on him, to
dumping him at the end. Becky and Chuck make the perfect couple.

The whole Supernatural convention was just plain fun and hilarious
in many places. Having been to a lot of conventions myself, I appreciated how
Eric wrote this. As I was watching this convention it brought back memories and
feelings of the ones I’ve attended. Eric did a really good job of acknowledging
Supernatural’s fan base. It was also appropriate that the Chicago con was last weekend, right after
this episode aired.

All the events were like the real conventions, and even some of
the games. Mind you I have never been to or experienced nor do I want to a
“Larping” convention, but it was fun to watch all the Deans and Sams, many of
the monsters the boys have fought (loved the “scary” scarecrow and the Hookman
and lots of FBI agents impersonating Dean and Sam.

The ghost story was good also. I was surprised when Dean “deep
fried extra crispy” the mother only to discover they destroyed the ghost that
was keeping the nasty bratty boys in line. Nice twist.

Fake Dean and fake Sam were great and enjoyable and very funny at
times. I don’t ever remember Sam’s voice being that low and husky or gravelly,
Dean yes but not Sam. I love the fake Dean and Sam leading the team with real
Dean and real Sam as Bobby and Rufus pulling up the rear. Dean losing his
patience when the Larpers acted out the conversations from “Asylum”. Wondered
how long it would take Dean before he exploded, ha not very long! The anger
Dean expressed certainly told how he felt about their real lives.

The cemetery scene was great! Didn’t realize how much I had missed
Dean and Sam digging the graves and burning the bones. Always did love the
scenes when Dean lit the matches and threw them into the grave.

I thought it was great the way the colt was brought up again. Dean
said earlier about trying to find the colt. The colt was always such an
important part of the story in seasons 1, 2 and 3. The fact that Bella stole it
always bothered me more references weren’t made about the colt. I felt that the
colt had to make another appearance because it was so important to Sam and
Dean. If you look closely when Dean makes the comment about looking for the
colt, the look of confusion on Becky’s face was great. I felt she was surprised
to hear that the boys had no idea where it was. When she was trying to explain
to Sam that her heart now belongs to Chuck was perfect. The nice gentleman that
Sam is it was great to see him go along and pretend he was heart broken,
because it looked like Becky was feeling a little guilty so she told him that
Bella hadn’t sold the gun, and who had it, another demon, Lilth’s lover great.

Now that the boys know where it is gives them the opportunity to
retrieve the gun. IMHO they are going to find out that the colt is useless against
any higher level demons, and then they can put the gun to rest, loose end tied
up!

The fake Dean and Sam, telling Dean why they believe Sam and Dean
are heroes and lead great lives. Damian telling Dean that he didn’t get the
story: to wake up every day and save people, have a brother who loved him so
much he would die for him and who wouldn’t want that. Dean desperately needed
to be told these things, to finally understand how important he and Sam are,
and that his life does have meaning, it always did. Normal guys like Damian and
Barnes were the only ones who could get through to Dean. I don’t think Dean
would have listened to anybody he knew or cared about.

To see Dean leaning on top of the car with a smile on his face and
telling Sam that he was ok, had so much hope, optimism, that maybe things were
going to be ok and maybe they could just stop this war. Made my heart sing!!!

I for one have loved this season so far. I loved the real heavy
first four episodes setting up the apocalypse, they were wonderful. The last
run of funny episodes I have also loved. I have really liked the humor and meta
stuff and poking fun at themselves and us fans too. I find that says how much
respect the Supernatural team have for our fandom. Yes the episodes were fun
and funny but in each of them some little jewel was reveled to us. Yeah they
were like the old stand alone one with some MOTW, but each had a purpose and
place in the grand scheme of things. These were all in preparation for “Hell on
earth and war!”

“Abandon all Hope” looks to be one hell of a mid season cliff
hanger and we have to wait until January to pick up the story. I believe in all
my heart by the time last half of season is airing I’ll be wishing for one of
light-hearted funny episodes. Eric is going to put us fan through the ringer.

Stuff I liked in this episode

  1. Dean pulling up short when he
sees the line of impalas parked at the hotel.
  2. Chuck asking for questions
and everyone in the room puts their hands up.
  3. Most of audience is men as
opposed to SPN real conventions where it’s all girls. Conventions with larping being the main draw would
attract more men than women I think.
  4. Becky yelling at the Hookman
when he critized the boys saying “if you don’t like the story then quit
reading the books”. I heard that somewhere before LOL.
  5. Dean trying to pick up the
girl in the bar…loved her “seen more guys with MacGyver jackets”.
  6. A little use of the work
“jerk”, and “the emf is going nuts” by real Sam and a fake Sam.
  7. Dean’s lines of light her up
nice and toasty and deep fry the bitch extra crispy.
  8. The number of times in a row
    Dean’s name was said.
  9. Twice “gee you think Sammy?”
  10. Dean saying “larping cowboys
    and Indians”
  11. The hookman asking why they
don’t use bunges to stop the weapons from flying out of their hands, and
Dean saying maybe it’s not a bad idea after Dean and Sam loose their
    weapons with the bratty boys.
  12. And last but not least at the
very end when Dean and Sam get into the car “They close the doors
    together”.

Dean and Sam are moving closer to resolving their issues just in
time for them to work together to stop the war that is coming next week.
